MediPeds quarter sock

The same non-binding cuff and cushioned sole cut to stop just above the ankle bone, in white, black and two grey-heeled versions. Four pairs to a packet or eight, in shoe sizes from men 6-9 to men 12-15.

A quarter sock stops roughly two fingers above the ankle bone. That is high enough to keep the back of a shoe off your skin, which a no-show does not do, and low enough to disappear under a trouser cuff in summer. People buy this shelf for one of two reasons. Either they want the crew knit without the leg — same cuff, same cushion, less sock in a warm month — or they have found that a cuff sitting on the ankle bone rather than up the calf suits a leg that is tender higher up. The cushion runs under the foot and around the heel, and on the two-tone versions you can see it: the grey is the cushioned yarn, and it stops where the cushion stops. If you are ordering for someone who cannot feel a rub, the shorter sock has one honest disadvantage over the crew, which is that the top edge sits at exactly the height of a walking boot collar. In a boot, take the crew.

Prices are the figures from our last update; the MediPeds rule updates them on a schedule, and the figure at the till is the one that counts.

Questions about MediPeds non-binding quarter socks

Where a quarter sock stops, whether it stays up without a tight cuff, and how it differs from the crew on the shelf above.

Where does a MediPeds quarter sock stop?

About two fingers above the ankle bone. It clears the back of a low shoe, which a no-show sock does not, and it sits below a trouser cuff in summer, which a crew does not.

Is the MediPeds quarter sock the same knit as the crew?

The same cuff, the same flat toe seam and the same cushioned sole, cut shorter. The two-tone versions make the cushion visible: the grey yarn is the padded one, and it stops where the padding stops.

Do MediPeds quarter socks stay up as well as the crew?

On most feet, yes, because what holds a non-binding sock in place is the padded sole gripping the inside of a shoe rather than the cuff gripping the leg. The one place the shorter sock loses is a boot, where the top edge lands on the collar and gets pushed down by it.
