Crew socks knitted on a wider last, with the same non-binding top opened out further and the same cushioned sole. White and black, four or eight pairs, in shoe sizes from men 6-9 with women 6-10 to shoe 12-15. One of them is a plain ribbed knit rather than a cushioned one.
This shelf answers a specific morning: the sock goes on over the toes and then stops, or it goes on and the cuff will not come past the widest part of the calf. That is not a shoe-size problem, and going up a shoe size does not fix it — a larger sock is longer, not wider round the leg. The wide top is knitted with more yarn round the cuff and more give in it, so the same calf takes it without the sock being stretched to its limit, which is also what stops the top edge from digging in when it is on. The foot of the sock is the standard width for its shoe size; the extra is in the leg. Two things are worth saying plainly. A wider cuff slides more readily than a narrow one, so if the sock is for someone who will not notice it working its way down inside a shoe, that is a reason to prefer the cushioned version over the ribbed one. And the podiatrists' association makes the general point better than a sock catalogue can: appropriate shoes and socks go a long way in reducing risk, which is an argument for measuring rather than for buying eight pairs on a guess.
Prices are the figures from our last update; the MediPeds test updates them on a schedule, and the figure at the till is the one that counts.

Questions about MediPeds extra wide socks
How much wider the wide top is, whether the foot is wider too, and which shoe sizes it is cut for.
How much wider is a MediPeds extra wide sock?
The extra is in the leg rather than the foot: more yarn round the cuff and more give in it, so a calf that stretches an ordinary non-binding top to its limit takes this one without the top edge digging in. The foot of the sock is the standard width for its shoe size.
Will a bigger shoe size fix a cuff that will not go on?
No, and it is the commonest wasted order in this category. A larger shoe size gives you a longer sock, not a wider one. If the sock goes over the toes and then stops at the calf, width is what you are short of, and this is the shelf for it.
Do MediPeds extra wide socks slide down more?
A wider cuff has less to hold on to, so yes, more readily than a standard one. The cushioned version is the answer where that matters: the padded sole holds the foot end still inside a shoe, and the plain ribbed knit on this shelf has less of that grip to offer.
