The word diabetic on a sock packet describes who the sock was designed around rather than anything the sock does. What is actually different is three decisions in the knitting. The cuff has no rubber thread in it, so it rests on the calf instead of closing round it. The seam across the toes is knitted flat rather than folded and stitched, so nothing rides across the top of your toes inside a shoe. The sole is padded with extra loops, which cushions the foot and, on a cuff that does not grip, is what keeps the sock where it was put.

Those three decisions match, almost line for line, what the national institute that publishes on diabetes and feet says a sock should be: lightly padded, well fitting, seamless for preference, and not tight. That source is at the foot of this page, and it is worth reading in its own words rather than in ours, because it also says the part a sock catalogue cannot: that a foot which has lost feeling has to be looked at every day, sole and between the toes, whatever is on it. What we can settle for you here is the choosing. Height first, then the width of the cuff, then how many pairs.

Every pack count and shoe size here is priced on its own. MediPeds socks keeps the figures current, and the till is what decides.

About these pieces

Questions about MediPeds Diabetic Socks

The whole non-binding range on one page

What makes a MediPeds sock a diabetic sock?

The cuff, the toe seam and the sole. No rubber thread in the top, a flat seam across the toes rather than a folded one, and extra loops knitted into the underfoot. Nothing about it is a treatment, and this site does not describe it as one.

Are MediPeds diabetic socks only for people with diabetes?

No. The same three things suit any leg that swells by the evening, any foot that is rubbed easily, and anybody who has come home to a ring pressed above the ankle. Plenty of this range is bought by people who have simply had enough of tight cuffs.

Which MediPeds diabetic sock should you start with?

A four-pair packet of the crew, unless you already know a shorter sock suits you. The crew covers the most situations, four pairs is enough to find out how this cuff behaves on your calf, and the eight-pair packets are still there when it does.
